The AFP at Oxford’s Institute for Ethics in AI was launched to confront the challenges posed by rapid advances in AI. Its mission is to bring together experts from different sectors — and build a global ethics-in-AI hub.

Through AFP, fellows gain access to Oxford’s intellectual community, seminars, policy dialogues, and rich networks — enabling their research and advocacy to reach global audiences.

Eligibility for AFP

To apply for the AFP Fellowship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Your proposed project should align with one of the AFP’s thematic tracks and demonstrate potential for real-world impact.

  • Proficiency in English (as the programme is delivered in English).

The programme is open to applicants worldwide.

Application Process

  1. Complete the online application form via the AFP page.

  2. Prepare a single PDF combining the following documents:

    • One-page project statement

    • A motivation letter.

    • A two-page CV.

    • A copy of a valid passport (for visa assessment if a remote or in-person stay requires travel).

  3. Email the PDF to: aiethicsafp@philosophy.ox.ac.uk with subject: “AFP Fellowship Application”.

  4. Await notification; successful applicants may be offered a 6-month or 12-month fellowship, starting as early as February 2026.
