About UT Scholarship

The University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) is a prestigious opportunity for outstanding non-EU/EEA students who wish to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Twente in the Netherlands.

It provides significant financial assistance ranging from €3,000 to €22,000 for one academic year, helping recipients cover living and study-related expenses. For those enrolled in two-year master’s programmes, the scholarship can be extended for a second year based on strong academic performance.

While the UTS does not directly pay tuition fees, it offers essential support that allows students to focus on their academic growth and career goals.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the Scholarship:

  • Hold provisional or full admission to an eligible master’s programme at the University of Twente.

  • Possess a valid UT student number at the time of application.

  • Not have previously earned a degree from UT.

  • Rank among the top 5–10% of their graduating class.

  • Meet the English language proficiency requirement: IELTS 6.5 (speaking ≥ 6.0) or TOEFL iBT 90.

  • Not eligible for Dutch national funding (DUO).

For two-year programmes, scholarship continuation into the second year requires:

  • Maintaining an average grade of 7/10, and

  • Completing at least 50% of academic credits by the end of the third quarter.

Why This Scholarship Stands Out

  1. Flexible financial support
The UTS allows recipients to use the funds for living costs, educational materials, or personal expenses — giving them the freedom to allocate resources as needed.

  2. Exclusive access to honours tracks
Scholars may apply to UT’s unique honours programmes — Research Honours, Design Honours, or Change Leaders — designed to strengthen leadership and innovation skills.

  3. Additional funding opportunities
Some recipients may qualify for extra financial support through the Kipaji Scholarship (link below), a special fund for students from developing countries.

  4. Renewable for two-year degrees
Students who maintain academic excellence can renew the scholarship for their second academic year.

Important Things to Note

  • The UTS is not a full scholarship, so students must plan to cover tuition and other personal expenses.

  • Applicants must first secure admission to a UT master’s programme before applying for UTS.

  • The selection process is highly competitive, based on academic merit and motivation.

  • If a student later becomes eligible for Dutch statutory tuition fees or other major funding, the scholarship may be discontinued.

Related Opportunity
